This year’s celebrations were marked by a special announcement: the UAE President has directed the creation of seven new mosques in Abu Dhabi, each named after one of the emirates. Opening in January, the mosques will collectively welcome around 6,000 worshippers and stand as a symbolic tribute to unity and heritage.
Officials say the initiative aims to instil the spirit of the Union in future generations, reinforcing ideals of generosity, nation-building and cultural continuity. The mosques have been designed in a modern architectural style enriched with Islamic artistic traditions, blending heritage with contemporary expression. The project was developed through collaboration between the Presidential Court, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport — timed to coincide with the country’s National Day.
Across the country today, schools hosted flag-raising ceremonies and heritage performances; universities held exhibitions and discussions; and workplaces organised community gatherings. These celebrations echo the essence of the Union – a commitment to tolerance, harmony and collective ambition. As the UAE looks ahead to the next decades of its development journey, today’s events – and the new mosques named after the seven emirates – reflect a nation honouring its past while building with confidence toward the future.
