The change takes the road from six to seven lanes in this section, lifting its capacity by around 16 percent and enabling up to 14,000 vehicles per hour to move through the corridor. It’s a targeted fix for a stretch long known for heavy traffic, especially during evening rush hours.
RTA says the upgrade will help ease congestion, shorten travel times and improve safety by reducing the density of cars at peak flow. Drivers heading in from Abu Dhabi are also expected to notice smoother movement around the Umm Al Sheif junction, where overlap points previously caused delays.
