The network, which currently handles freight, will soon welcome passengers, slashing travel times between major cities. A trip from Dubai to Abu Dhabi is expected to take just 30 minutes – much faster than originally planned.
Each station will integrate with metro and bus lines, and will be equipped with modern facilities inspired by Emirati heritage and sustainability principles. While designs for the Abu Dhabi station are still under wraps, the announcement marks a key milestone in delivering a unified national rail system.
Although a launch date has not been set, Etihad Rail continues to advance project contracts and design approvals. For now, freight remains the focus, but the shift to passenger services is moving closer.
