The scheme will see the existing bridge extended by nearly 70 metres and widened to four lanes. Once finished, capacity will rise from 4,200 to 5,600 vehicles per hour – an increase of around 33 percent.
To minimise disruption, engineers will use steel box girders topped with a composite concrete slab, allowing work to move ahead without traffic diversions or temporary structures beneath the bridge. For motorists on Airport Street, that means no added bottlenecks while construction is in progress.
The project is part of a wider programme to upgrade access routes to the airport. In recent years, RTA has delivered a series of improvements along Airport Street, including new bridges, tunnels and redesigned junctions at Al Rashidiya, Casablanca Street, Marrakech Street and Nad Al Hamar Street.
Once complete, the new bridge is expected to ease congestion during peak hours, improve safety, and offer smoother journeys to and from DXB – a critical upgrade for both residents and visitors moving through one of Dubai’s most important transport corridors.
