RTA Confirms Dubai Metro Blue Line Hits 10% Completion

Dubai’s most ambitious transport upgrade is moving from vision to reality. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the Dubai Metro Blue Line – a 30km extension linking Old Dubai, new communities, and Dubai International Airport – has reached 10 per cent completion, just five months after construction began.

More than 500 engineers and 3,000 workers are now active across 12 construction sites, with RTA targeting 30 per cent completion by the end of 2026 and a full opening on September 9, 2029. The project is being built to connect directly with the existing Red and Green Lines, reducing travel times and creating smoother journeys across the city.

The Blue Line will feature two main branches: one stretching from Creek Interchange Station through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor, before extending to International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Academic City; and another linking Centrepoint Station with Mirdif and Al Warqa, converging at International City. Designed with the future in mind, the line will serve communities expected to reach around one million residents by 2040 and support Dubai’s ‘20-minute city’ goal.

Among the project’s architectural highlights is an elevated station at Dubai Creek Harbour, set to become the world’s highest metro station and a new city landmark. Construction has already surpassed three million work hours with zero fatalities – a milestone RTA attributes to rigorous safety and quality standards. Once complete, the Blue Line is expected to ease congestion, strengthen links between residential and business districts, and redefine how Dubai moves.
