Dubai Approves 10 Days Paid Marriage Leave for Emirati Government Staff

Tying the knot just got even more rewarding for Emirati government employees in Dubai. A new decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum grants eligible staff ten working days of fully paid marriage leave, offering more flexibility during one of life’s biggest milestones. The leave can be taken all at once or spread across the year, helping couples celebrate their new beginning on their own terms.

The policy applies to Emirati citizens working in Dubai Government entities, including those in free zones, special development zones, and the DIFC. It also covers Emirati judicial authority members and military personnel, though cadets are not included. All allowances and financial benefits remain intact during this leave, making it a meaningful addition to the HR framework.

To qualify, employees must complete their probation and present an attested marriage certificate. The spouse must also be an Emirati, and the marriage must have occurred on or after January 1, 2025. In special cases, unused leave can be rolled over to the next year with proper approval, ensuring no celebration is cut short by admin delays.

Once approved, departments cannot recall employees from leave, except for military staff, who may be summoned back if duty calls. However, their unused days will be carried forward. The move underscores Dubai’s ongoing commitment to national talent and work-life balance, offering a thoughtful start to married life for Emirati employees.
