The effect occurs when Earth moves between the sun and the moon, and sunlight filters through our atmosphere to tint the lunar surface red. The eclipse unfolds over several hours – penumbral, partial, total, then back again – with totality expected to last around 30–60 minutes.
Dubai Astronomy Group plans to stream the eclipse from the city and aims to capture a shot aligned with Burj Khalifa. For darker skies, Al Qudra Desert and Hatta are easy options from Dubai, while seasoned drivers can head to the Al Quaa Milky Way Spot near Al Ain or Shuweihat Island in Abu Dhabi’s far west. Pack water, a mat or chair, and a red-light torch – then look up and enjoy.
