Dubai Launches 4-Day Workweek for Government Employees This Summer

The ‘Our Flexible Summer’ program officially returns, offering shorter weeks and greater flexibility for public sector staff.

Dubai’s new summer work schedule has officially begun. As of July 1, 2025, government employees across the emirate are shifting to a four-day workweek and enjoying more flexible hours, thanks to the launch of this year’s ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative.

Running through September 12, the program is designed to support a better work-life balance for public sector professionals during the hottest months of the year. The Dubai Government Human Resources Department first piloted the reduced schedule across 21 entities in 2024. Results showed a noticeable boost in employee satisfaction, productivity, and workplace wellbeing — prompting a full-scale rollout in 2025.

The initiative allows government departments to adapt working hours and introduce hybrid or remote options where possible, ensuring both efficiency and comfort in the summer heat. It’s a forward-thinking approach that reflects Dubai’s evolving workplace culture — prioritizing performance, flexibility, and wellness.

For the private sector, this may be a sign of things to come.
