Abu Dhabi To Host Open Masters Games In 2026

Abu Dhabi is set to welcome one of the world’s biggest sporting events as the Open Masters Games comes to the capital for the first time in the Middle East. Running from 6 to 16 February 2026, the event will see more than 25,000 athletes from around the globe competing across 33 sports, including four traditional disciplines unique to the region.

Unlike traditional international competitions, the Open Masters Games is open to a wide range of participants, from retired professionals to first-time enthusiasts. Inspired by the World Masters Games, often described as the Olympics for athletes over 30, this edition embraces inclusivity by allowing entries from age 30 upwards – with some events starting at 25 for swimming and endurance racing, and 27 for rugby.

Competitions will be held at venues across the city, including Zayed Sports City, and will feature athletics, cycling, basketball, tennis, judo, swimming and rugby, alongside regional sports such as falconry, camel racing, dhow sailing and endurance horse racing. Spectators can enjoy free entry to all venues, creating a lively atmosphere for athletes and fans alike.

Registration fees are set at 275 dirhams for UAE residents and 550 dirhams for international participants, with 90 percent returned as credit for accommodation, dining and experiences upon arrival. Organisers are also seeking 20,000 volunteers to support logistics, hospitality and event management, ensuring the Games celebrate sport, community and healthy living at every level.
