Dubai Metro’s New AI Robot Inspects Tracks While the City Sleeps

Dubai Metro has taken another step into the future with the introduction of a new AI-powered robot that inspects tracks and infrastructure while most of the city sleeps. Known as ARIIS – short for Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System – the technology is part of a growing move towards smarter, more efficient transport solutions across the city.

The robot operates independently, using a combination of LiDAR sensors, 3D cameras and lasers to scan tracks in fine detail. Unlike traditional inspections, which require large teams and extended hours, ARIIS performs its rounds during off-peak times without disrupting metro services. The result is faster inspections, improved safety, and a significant reduction in manual workload.

Developed by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Keolis MHI and Future Maintenance Technologies, the system represents a shift toward proactive and data-driven maintenance. By identifying potential issues early, ARIIS helps extend the lifespan of key infrastructure and reduces the risk of delays or disruptions.

The move also supports Dubai’s wider vision to become a global leader in smart mobility and sustainable urban development. As the city continues to innovate in public transport, systems like ARIIS signal a commitment to blending technology with everyday convenience – ensuring that even the behind-the-scenes work of running a metro is done with futuristic precision.
