Dubai’s Blue Line to Feature World’s Tallest Metro Station

Dubai is set to break records once again, this time with the tallest metro station in the world. At a recent foundation stone-laying ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum unveiled the striking new design for the Emaar Properties Metro Station, which will rise to an impressive height of 74 metres.

The station, named under a ten-year sponsorship agreement with Emaar Properties, will mark the starting point of the much-anticipated Blue Line. Spanning 30 kilometres, this new addition will increase the total length of Dubai’s metro network to 131 kilometres, connecting 78 stations across the city.

Scheduled to open on 09-09-29, the launch pays tribute to the Dubai Metro’s 20th anniversary, echoing its original debut on 09-09-09. The Blue Line will include 14 stations – nine above ground and five underground – and will introduce the first metro crossing over Dubai Creek via a 1.3 kilometre viaduct.

Designed by architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the Emaar station will cover 11,000 square metres and serve up to 160,000 passengers per day. Blending heritage with modernity using limestone, bronze and glass, the project is also Dubai’s first Platinum-certified green metro station, with long-term benefits valued at over AED 56.5 billion.
