Singing Road in Fujairah Turns Daily Drives Into Musical Journeys

It’s not every day your tyres play Beethoven, but on a quiet stretch of Sheikh Khalifa Street in Fujairah, that’s exactly what happens. Just before the Police Headquarters, a nearly 1km-long section of musical rumble strips has been installed, transforming a daily commute into a drive-through symphony.

The road, developed in collaboration with the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy, plays a portion of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony when driven over at a steady 100 to 105 km/h. It's a first for the UAE and the Arab world, and it’s quickly become both a social media sensation and a roadside attraction for visitors from across the country.

For Fujairah resident Omar Al Obiadi, it’s now part of his weekly routine. 'I slow down just a bit, make sure no one’s behind me, and cruise right into the music,' he said. Others, like Dubai-based Amr Ahmed Kazeem, describe it as surreal: 'My car suddenly turned into a piano. It was like the road was telling me to relax, you're in Fujairah now.'

The concept is set to expand, with plans for similar musical installations featuring local tunes in other parts of the emirate. For now, drivers are invited to switch lanes, tune out the traffic, and let their tyres hum along to Beethoven, safely and joyfully.
