A New Era for an Icon: Dubai Fountain Enters Transformation

For over a decade, the Dubai Fountain has captivated millions with its mesmerising aquatic performances beneath the Burj Khalifa. Now, this Downtown icon is undergoing a dramatic transformation. Temporarily closed since April, the 30-acre artificial lake has been drained to make way for state-of-the-art upgrades, including new choreography, advanced lighting, and robotics that will choreograph jets of water to music with even greater precision.

While the full reopening is slated for October 2025, Emaar is ensuring the Downtown promenade remains vibrant. A 500-metre stretch of digital screens now enlivens the pedestrian zone with immersive visual storytelling. Meanwhile, the developer has waived rent for over 50 food and beverage terraces overlooking the lake, a gesture of support for hospitality partners during this transitional period.

The redesign also addresses key infrastructure such as a new high-grade concrete floor that will provide better insulation and improve visual clarity beneath the water’s surface. The transformation promises a more seamless blend of technology, performance, and urban artistry in Dubai’s most visited locale.

Until the reopening, visitors can still enjoy sweeping skyline views and an evolving digital experience. As Emaar’s Mohamed Alabbar aptly noted, this project is about more than upgrades, it’s a testament to the continued evolution of Downtown Dubai as a living and breathing destination.
