Dubai Student Boom: International Enrolment Surges 29% in One Year

Dubai’s reputation as a global education hub continues to grow, with international student enrolment rising by 29% for the 2024–25 academic year. More than 42,000 students are now enrolled across 41 licensed universities in the emirate, with international students making up 35% of the total.

This sharp rise is fuelled by several key developments – including the launch of four new international university campuses and the growing presence of globally recognised academic institutions. A steady stream of high school graduates and promising post-study job prospects have also helped attract students from abroad.

These trends support the goals of Dubai’s ‘Education 33’ strategy and the wider ‘City of Students’ initiative, both of which aim to boost international enrolment to 50% by the year 2033. The emirate is positioning itself as a top choice for students seeking world-class education and long-term career potential.

The insights were shared during a recent education briefing in Dubai, hosted by L.E.K. Consulting’s Global Education Practice. The event brought together policy experts and academic leaders to explore the future of higher education in a city fast becoming one of the world’s most attractive student destinations.
