Mamma Mia! The Hit Musical Opens Tonight in Abu Dhabi

Originally conceived by producer Judy Craymer and built around ABBA’s timeless music, Mamma Mia! made its debut in 1999 and has since been performed in over 50 countries and translated into multiple languages. The musical – named after one of ABBA’s biggest hits – takes audiences on a journey to a sun-drenched Greek island, where a young bride-to-be tries to uncover the identity of her father. What follows is a vibrant tale of love, friendship, and discovery, soundtracked by unforgettable songs like Dancing Queen, The Winner Takes It All, and Take a Chance on Me.

For many, the musical might bring back memories of the hit 2008 film adaptation, which starred Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth. That version introduced ABBA’s music to a new generation and became a pop culture phenomenon in its own right, leading to a sequel in 2018. But the stage show remains the original experience – packed with energy, glittering costumes, and live performances that fill the theatre with joy.
