Sharjah FC makes history with AFC Champions League 2 triumph

Late heroics secure historic continental title as Sharjah FC triumphs in the inaugural edition of the revamped tournament. The dramatic final saw a last-minute equaliser followed by a stunning stoppage-time winner, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. It’s a proud milestone for the club and a defining moment for UAE football on the Asian stage.

Sharjah Football Club made history on Sunday night, clinching the AFC Champions League 2 title with a dramatic 2–1 victory over Singapore’s Lion City Sailors. The high-stakes final took place at Bishan Stadium, delivering a nail-biting finish in the tournament’s debut season.

Firas Belarbi put Sharjah ahead in the 74th minute, before Lion City’s Maxime drew level in stoppage time with a goal in the 91st minute. But the UAE side wasn’t done, as Marcus Meloni struck in the 97th minute to seal the win and ignite celebrations across the Emirates.

This marks Sharjah’s first-ever continental trophy and a proud moment in the club’s history. It’s also a landmark achievement for UAE football, as Sharjah lifts the title in the inaugural edition of the newly formatted AFC Champions League 2.

Congratulatory messages poured in, including one from Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee.

‘Congratulations Sharjah... Congratulations UAE,’ he posted. ‘Sharjah Football Club, champion of AFC Champions League 2. Thank you for this outstanding performance, and heartfelt congratulations to our wise leadership for this title. We congratulate the Sharjah Club family, its fans, and all the youth of the nation for this honourable achievement.’
