Abu Dhabi is revving up for the regional premiere of F1 The Movie, with the adrenaline-fueled racing drama starring Brad Pitt set to hit screens in the capital on June 25. The event marks a cinematic homecoming, as several major scenes were filmed during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last December.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film follows the fictional story of Sonny Hayes – a former Formula 1 prodigy whose promising career was derailed by a devastating crash in the 1990s. Decades later, he’s drawn back to the track in a bid to mentor a rookie driver and revive a struggling team.
The production spent 29 days filming across key locations including Yas Marina Circuit, Zayed International Airport, and twofour54 Studios. In total, it engaged 284 local crew members and 15 interns, providing a significant boost to Abu Dhabi’s creative sector. The shoot also benefited from the Abu Dhabi Film Commission’s rebate programme.
‘Hosting the regional premiere as part of the global tour is a fitting way to celebrate our collaboration with Apple Original Films,’ said Mohamed Dobay, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority. ‘F1 The Movie has significantly contributed to Abu Dhabi’s creative ecosystem.’
The premiere will take place a day ahead of the film’s official Middle East release on June 26.
