Abu Dhabi has unveiled plans to launch the world’s first AI city by 2027. The project, named Aion Sentia, will span over 25 square kilometres and is designed as a fully cognitive city: One that continuously adapts to its residents using real-time data and predictive technologies.
At the heart of the experience will be MAIA, a mobile application that connects residents to core services across transport, housing, healthcare, and public infrastructure. The system is built to respond to user behaviour, providing recommendations and services in real-time as part of a larger vision to embed artificial intelligence into everyday civic life.
The announcement follows a new AI partnership between the UAE and the United States, confirmed during US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Abu Dhabi. Among the signed agreements was a plan to build a major AI complex powered by a 5-gigawatt data centre – set to be the largest of its kind outside the United States.
Aion Sentia is part of the UAE’s broader effort to establish itself as a leader in artificial intelligence, data infrastructure, and digital government. Under the Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025–2027, the city is also on track to become the world’s first AI-native government, integrating smart services across all public platforms.
Recent initiatives, including the evolution of the TAMM digital platform, signal the direction Abu Dhabi is heading, toward a fully connected future, built around real-time systems and large-scale infrastructure.
