Trump’s Visit to Abu Dhabi Includes Jet Escort, AI Ambitions, and Symbolic Firsts

During his first official trip to the UAE as President, Donald Trump received the Order of Zayed in a formal ceremony at Qasr Al Watan, visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque for a guided tour of one of the country’s most iconic landmarks, and announced plans for a large-scale artificial intelligence campus in Abu Dhabi aimed at advancing regional tech capabilities.

US President Donald Trump arrived in Abu Dhabi on May 15, 2025, marking his first official visit to the UAE since taking office earlier this year. His arrival aboard Air Force One was accompanied by an Emirati F-16 escort – a symbolic gesture reflecting long-standing ties between the two countries.

As part of the visit, President Trump and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced plans for a 5-gigawatt AI campus to be developed in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with American companies. The project is intended to support the region’s broader goals in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.

In a formal ceremony at Qasr Al Watan, Trump was awarded the Order of Zayed – the UAE’s highest civilian honor in recognition of his role in strengthening bilateral relations.
