Flag on the Peak As Saeed Al Memari Reaches Kanchenjunga Summit

The Emirati mountaineer reached the world’s third-highest peak last week, becoming the first Arab to stand atop Kanchenjunga – a challenging summit that adds to the growing presence of Gulf adventurers in global mountaineering circles, and reflects the region’s increasing engagement with high-altitude exploration and endurance sports.

Emirati adventurer Saeed Al Memari has reached the summit of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain at 8,586 metres, becoming the first Arab climber to do so.

The four-day ascent began last Thursday from the mountain’s main base camp. Located along the India–Nepal border, Kanchenjunga is considered one of the most technically demanding climbs among the world’s 8,000-metre peaks.

At the summit, Al Memari raised the UAE flag alongside a portrait of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as flags representing the Ministry of Defence and Calidus Holding, the official sponsor of the expedition.

His achievement adds to the growing list of Emirati milestones in global mountaineering, reflecting a wider national interest in outdoor exploration and endurance sports.

Al Memari has previously completed expeditions to Everest, Kilimanjaro, and the South Pole, building a legacy of representing the UAE on some of the world’s most challenging terrain. His latest summit underscores a steady rise in regional participation in high-altitude expeditions.
